The Italian Academy marks International Women's Day each March 8—and Women's History Month throughout March—with events and publications.
For 2026, we offer a public conversation among three outstanding scientists: Elena Aprile (Centennial Professor of Physics; Director of the Italian Academy, Columbia University), Janna Levin (Claire Tow Professor of Physics & Astronomy, Barnard College), and Angela V. Olinto (Provost, Rutherfurd Professor of Astronomy and Professor of Physics, Columbia University) in Dark Matter, Dark Stars, Dark Skies: A Conversation. Our smaller auditorium has sold out, so we are moving to our large theatre; some tickets are still available.
In recent years, we have published interviews (available here below) that focus on the most pressing issues of our time.
In March 2024, in a special initiative, the Academy welcomed an Italian parliamentary delegation as they traveled to New York to join the meeting of the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women (March 13): Senators Francesco Verducci and Simona Malpezzi; House Representatives Valentina Ghio, Annarita Patriarca, and Catia Polidori; Parliament Counselors Roberta D’Addio and Maria Teresa Calabro’; and Vice Consul Alessandra Oliva.
The series was conceived by Barbara Faedda and has been organized by her annually since then.
