In Socrates as a Satyr: a Conundrum in the History of Greek portraiture,Giuliani examines Socrates' physiognomy as it was famously described in two types of documents: the first portrait
statue of Socrates and the two dialogues entitled Symposium written by Plato and by Xenophon. Both types of documents present Socrates as a satyr, and each raises similar chronological and interpretative problems.
