Edmund White (Italian Academy Fellow) in conversation with Academy Director David Freedberg

The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University will host a public event featuring Edmund White, the noted author and scholar, who was a Fellow at the Italian Academy in the fall of 2013. His research at the Academy focused on the period late in the life of Lorenzo Da Ponte when he lived in the United States, taught Italian at what would become Columbia University, and founded the first opera company in America. Da Ponte is best known for his librettos to three of Mozart’s greatest operas, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and Così Fan Tutte. Mr. White will speak with the Italian Academy’s Director, Pierre Matisse Professor of the History of Art at Columbia.
