Otto Naumann is one of the most distinguished Old Master dealers in the world. For almost thirty years he has directed the New York gallery which carries his name and has made benchmark sales to leading collectors and museums, from the Getty Museum in Los Angeles to the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Few gallerists in the world reach the level of distinction that he has achieved in the field of Dutch painting.
Otto Naumann is an alumnus of SUNY New Paltz, Columbia, and Yale University, where he received his Ph.D. in art history in 1979. Even before that he established his name as a major scholar of Dutch art, and he is the author of over 20 art-historical publications, including his definitive 1981 monograph on Frans van Mieris. He has also held positions at a number of universities, including a professorship at the University of Delaware.
His present gallery, now housing as many Italian Old Master paintings as Dutch and French, is found in what is known as the Fine Arts Building, just a few steps away from the Metropolitan Museum on East 80th Street.
