Luigi Nicolais

Luigi Nicolais is Emeritus Professor of Materials Engineering at the University of Naples "Federico II” and since February 2012, President of CNR, the National Research Council of Italy. He has been a member of the Scientific Committees of several institutions and professional societies. He is member of Editorial Boards of many International Journals on Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials.
He is one the Italian highly cited scientists ranked by the ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) of Philadelphia, President of Gruppo 2003 and President of COTEC.
He was awarded the Order of Merit by the President of Italian Republic.
He has been President and Founder of IMAST (Technological District of Polymeric Materials), President of “Città della Scienza” (Naples) and President of ARTI (Regional Agency for Innovation and Technology of Apulia Region).
He has edited 7 books and over 60 reviews as well as published over 450 papers in international journals. He has been awarded numerous prizes and certificates of honor by various national and international scientific Societies and institutional bodies for his achievements and contribution to science, and has been adjunct professor for more than 15 years at the University of Washington - Seattle, WA (USA) and University of Connecticut - Storrs, CT (USA).
He was Regional Minister for University and Scientific Research and Technological Innovation in the Region of Campania. In 2006, he was appointed Minister of Public Administration and Innovation of the Italian Republic and member of the Italian Parliament (2008-2012).
