Italy at the Forefront: Innovation versus Constraints

Dario Franceschini, Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage
in conversation with
David Freedberg, Pierre Matisse Professor of the History of Art, & Director of the Italian Academy, Columbia University
and with
Dario Disegni, President of the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS)

Minister Franceschini will focus on Italy’s leading role in global cultural conservation and on the culture and tourism ministry’s initiatives in international relations. He will also preview the museum of Italian Judaism, to open in Ferrara on December 13. The museum’s President, Mr. Disegni, will then illustrate the vast patrimony of ideas, artifacts, and cultural exchange produced in Italy by the Jews over more than two millennia.
(See here for a news article on the museum and the Ministry's connection to it.)

This event is part of the Academy’s new International Observatory for Cultural Heritage, which sponsors and encourages research on monuments, artifacts, and traditions.
